We are sorry we really had not had our best day when we met Lync. We had missed our exit, got lost, argued. It had been a very long day and were too tired and nervous. Lync was however all cool and understanding with us.

We had actually received Lync's reply after we had already told Phebe we would stay with her. However, Phebe was actually a friend of Lynn, they lived very close and we were happy he was going to come and hang out with us.

At the end, it turned out Phebe was going on a hike early the next morning, so Lynn offered we could stay with him; he would be happy to welcome us in his apartment after all.

As short as it was, we had a great time with Lync. We were a bit grumpy after our long day, but Lync always had a smile. He was very friendly, but also a sensible guy. He was eager to offer help and give good advice. He also showed us around. It was cool to talk about American stuff, so far away from home, and the experiences of Americans abroad.

Thank you very much Lync.

Javi and Alia are amazing! I had such a wonderful time couchsurfing at their house in Missoula. I loved getting to hang out with these two. Alia is an incredible cook (she cooked deer for me that she hunted and prepped!) and even sent me home with a delicious Italian meal for the road. They both know so much about the world and are a treat to meet. I also loved going hiking with Alia, and hearing her knowledge of trees and plants. They made my stay in Montana very special to say the least. Certainly welcome to couchsurf with me wherever I am!

Cumhur is an all-around five stars: he scores top marks in all categories. He is a really cool guy, fun to hang out with, but still very nice and generous and also very sensible and intelligent. It is really difficult to think of something negative to say about him. OK, so he hesitated answering a few questions we asked him about the history of Turkey. Which, shall we say, we consider a shame for a Ph.D. student in history. But it is OK! We still love him! He is still an awesome guy, we had a terrific time with him and he is among the best hosts we have met.

I am into the brain and I enjoyed our talk! It is so cool to discuss cutting edge science with someone active in the field! When I was house hunting they hosted me again, it was even more fun. We had a wonderful time with Chris. He is a very nice guy. He is a very good guest, somebody you enjoy to be and talk with. He is very polite, very respectful, very correct. He was always very careful (more than what he really needed!) not to take more than what (he thought) he was supposed to. It seemed to us it should be freaking difficult to get upset or just annoyed with him! That doesn't mean, however, he would not be honest or sincere. He is certainly a thoughtful person, but he does not only think what he says; he is also sincere and says what he thinks. And it is always interesting to hear what he has to say. He is a curious person, always eager to learn and he achieves a perfect balance between listening and talking It was delightful to talk with him. we would certainly love to meet him again.

We thought we didn't want to miss him. Score!! We had such good time with these guys. It was so much fun to hang out with Vuk and his 'brother' Zlatko. If anybody asks us if there was ever anything, anyway Alex could have been any nicer, any friendlier, more generous, more patient, more helpful... we could be left buried in thought for ages and we would not be able to come up with anything. Now, if anybody wonders if we were the perfect guests too, I guess it had been good if we had arrived a little earlier. We arrived around midnight and Alex still welcomed us with a big smile and open arms and heart. Not only that, but he kept offering food and help until 3am. Quite remarkable considering he had to get up at 7am: Ough!! That is Alex, one of the nicest, most friendly, generous, understanding and kind persons we have met. He is just plain adorable.

Alex is a really great guy. He deserves a much more detailed reference than what I can afford to write now. We will write all the good stuff about him as soon as we find enough time! Thank you Alex!

OK, finally, here is the good stuff:

Alex is the kind of person who no matter what little time you met him for, you remember and want to consider him your friend forever. You also keep wishing you had spend more time with him, or, at least, you will meet him again.

We met Alex for only a few hours in his apartment in the beautiful Romanian city of Cluj-Napoka. We had the most wonderful time talking with him. We went to bed rather late, but, we were having such a good time, it is this kind of weird cases where we wish we had kept talking until 5am or something. He is friendly, very cool, very kind, very nice, very curious and intelligent, fine young man. We wish we could have spent more time with him and hope we can meet him again!

Javier and Alia are one of the most lovely couple I've ever seen. They're colorful people who you can enjoy every single minute that you spend with them. Shame that wasn't able to taste their special dishes *sigh*, since I was out of gas. I was unlucky that night, but Spain was lucky. Haha, Javier's Spanish style cheering after Fabregas' last penalty was so great =D
Anyways, I hope we'll meet again in the future.

Tekin is rally a very friendly, cheerful, nice and generous guy. He gave us the warmest welcome to his house, as if we´had been friends forever. He gave us all the help he could, everything he had and even more than he had! It was funny for us how he kept apologizing for not being a perfect host, but he was actually an excellent host! He kept apologizing because his stove was out of gas, but then he offered us some really tasty Turkish food. He apologized his roomie, 'the breakfast expert', was out of town, but then he prepared an awesome breakfast for us. He even gave luck to the Spanish team and kicked out his friend who was supporting the Portuguese contender ;-) (just a joke...). After all what he had done, Tekin was even embarrassed to accept a ride from us! but we were very happy to do so. His final tip was to go visit the lake near Isparta. It was a good one: it was very beautiful.

Tekin is a really great guy everybody would enjoy to meet and we hope to see him agai

We enjoyed listening Janet's story on how she ended up settling down in Southern Italy after getting lost on her trip to Florence and through Rome into Naples. Quite impressive and crazy story Janet!

We received Wolkan's reply when we had already confirmed our stay with somebody else. As we, however, decided to stay a bit longer in Cappadocia, we wrote him again to ask if it would be possible to stay with him one night. Wolkan's reply was enthusiastic and very easy to decipher: "PLEASE COME!". Unfortunately we were not able to check our email until late, so by the time we knew his answer, we were not sure if he was going to be still available. We called and he explained there was no problem, it was OK if we were coming late. He came down running to pick us up. He gave us the warmest welcome to his house. He put all the house ready for us. He got all the food he had out. He was so nice and enthusiastic. Our stay with Wolkan was short, but it was certainly a really wonderful one. Thank you very much for your help Wolkan!

Cleo and Andreas are absolutely charming. We stayed with them two times; once before and once after we went to the Cyclades. It was so nice for us to know that we would have warm smiling faces to greet us when we got back from our island adventures. Cleo has an absolutely addictive personality. She is such a pleasure to be around. So sweet, gentle, and cute. Wonderful to speak with. We spent less time with Andreas, but he helped us a ton by finding the opening hours for the Delphi Archeological Site. They are both such hardworking people, that we did not get as much time with them as we would have hoped. If we were not in such a rush to finish our trip, we would have loved to spend a few days with them and have some awesome barbeque with them :) We hope that they get some relaxing vacation time, and maybe someday we will even get to meet again. Thanks a million you two!!

Yunus replied to our request explaining it would not be easy for him to host us, but he really wanted to meet us. We had also found another host for our first two days in Istanbul. But we were able to arrange to stay with him on our third day. Unfortunately, we got a bit lost in Istanbul public transportation maze and arrived rather late. Yunus was cool, friendly and understanding and came to pick us up. We had the chance and enjoyed talking to Yunus. Hhe offered any help he could give. Unfortunately, it was late and time to go to bed. We left early the next morning, hoping we will see Yunus in the evening, but we found the palace closed that day and decided to leave town and start heading east.

Thank you very much Yunus for your help. I am sorry we could not spend more time together.

We believe that the most simple people with the most simple accommodations, are the best people. This is most definitely true for Lorenzo and Oliva. They are uncomplicated and easy to know. They are kind and willing to share what little they have. Their house is small, but they have big, open hearts that warmly great you and make you feel at home. They are people dedicated to making this world good. People who want to make a positive impact and share their love. We feel very blessed to have been able to experience the love and caring they have to offer. They are absolutely wonderful people and we wish them all the best. Thank you both so much! Hope to see you in the future :)

Our second evening with them was absolutely lovely. Sitting around the table eating and chatting. They are both incredibly engaging people. Khuram is a very nice, sweet, kind and friendly person. In fact, exactly the same can be said of all his roomates and friends we met in Graz. They treated us with such kindness and warmth, we felt really welcomed in their house. It is very beautiful to sense the strong feeling of brotherhood in their house. Everybody helps eachother and they form a big family, where everybody is welcome. They just did everything possible to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

It was very enlightening to meet Khuram and his friends and learn about their culture and lives. It was interesting that at first they seemed to be concerned we would not want to stay with them since they are Pakistani or Muslims. However we learned how much good Pakistan has to offer and when we left we were reaffirmed there had not been any better place to stay than with them.

Thank you very much Khuram and all your friends! We hope to meet you again.

Michele and Martina are truly beautiful people with three lovely children. The beautiful family gave us the warmest welcome ever possible. They gave us so much love! It was really heartbreaking to see little Greta cry, when we had to explain her we could not stay one more day because we had already talked and confirmed with other people along our way.

We really had a good time talking for hours with Michele and Martina. They are really simple, friendly and very nice human beings. We had a great time playing with Enrico, Greta, Ana and Adele. Even Furia is one of the coolest and nicest, if not the very coolest and nicest cat we have met! But, most of all, the word that best describes this family is 'love'.

If you are a family and would like to meet another family, without a doubt, Martina, Michele, Adele, Greta and Enrico are the most beautiful people to host or visit.

He fixed us some very tasty dinner, which we didn't expect coming from a college student. He was always generous, kind, and accommodating. So were his roommates. They gave us a lot of information and tips for our travels. They were also curious to learn about our travels and studies. Javier and Alia are two great, funny, intelligent, and observant travellers. They have been through quite a lot and get to know the places they visit pretty well (by asking the right questions!). I very much enjoyed our talks with the guys just about every-any-thing, (and of history!). My parents were so excited of these visitors, too! :)) My dad caught up with us in the local pub and had a round or two of 52% Slivovica with us while we talked about Cuba, and the world, and the bloody wars, and about communism, and capitalism and other isms, and we had luxury time together in an otherwise depopulated local pub. And this is what matters most,- having those special moments together that no-body can take away from you,=recognizing and enjoying them. You can just feel how energy in our often painful (and screwed up) world just flows. I am glad we met with Javier and Alia, and am happy I could show you bits and pieces of the local element here in Bardejov region. Buen viaje Amigos!

More importantly, there is something interesting and something to learn in what he says. Ladislav is a very courageous, friendly and polite young man. He was a great friend to meet in the little Northern Slovakian town of Bardejov.

He showed us around Bardejov. He took us to a very interesting open air museum of traditional houses. He took us to his parents to have an awesome meal. We spent hours talking and telling stories and we never got bored. Him and his father even took us out for drinks and Alia got to try some awesome plum liquor. Ladislav is an excellent person, very worthwhile meeting him anytime and anywhere.

Marcin and Kasia are really awesome host; they score 10 out of 10 possible points in the scale of perfect hosts. But mare than excellent hosts, they are excellent people. They are very, very friendly people, very nice, very generous, very mature and responsible, and very thoughtful; they think what they say and say what they think.

Marcin and Kasia treated us to some awesome food (they even got some awesome Spanish food for us!) All what we were able to offer in return were some dry chestnuts. They gave us a lot of information on where to go (not just in Warsaw, but also in the next days). They pointed us to the exact place where we could find the portable stove we needed for our fuel; it had been impossible without them. They even gave us an awesome Rubik's cube that immediately allowed us to drop by two minutes the record we had on our old, cheap, crappy cube.

Most of all, it was really enjoyable to spend hours talking to them. Marcin and Kasia, thank you very much for everything!

what a beautiful couple! it was a pleasure hosting Alia and Javier, they were more than easy guests, accepting the lack of heating in bedroom, bathroom and kitchen without a glimpse...actually, they spent what felt like endless hours in my freezing cold kitchen preparing dinner for us...twice! ;-) (even though they did bring *swiss* saugsages to berlin..which is..well, like taking german chocolate to switzerland ;-)

Ben did not receive our request at the best time: he had been sick for the last few days. However, he still offered his help and told us he would be happy to welcome us, if we could not find anything else.

It was mid December and we had a horrible day in Berlin: it was freezing cold, rainy and the wind kept blowing the rain onto our faces. We arrived totally soaked and miserable at Ben's house, but he welcomed us with a smile and offered a change of clothes and a hot shower!

Ben is a very nice person. He is the kind of person who makes you feel comfortable when you are with him and sad when the time to leave comes. Ben is a very friendly guy, very easy to deal with, very generous, always happy to help. It was very difficult to say goodbye, because we were having a great time with Ben. He is really a great guy. He is just lovely!

Peter accepted our request to stay at his place, but we changed our plans and decided we would not spend the night in Kazimierz and continue towards Warsaw. Peter still explained he would love to meet us in Kazimierz and be our special guide. We had got up at 6:00am that morning, so we thought we should take a nap when we arrived in Kazimierz. Peter sent us an SMS, but we didn't answer, because we were sleeping. He called, but we were still sleeping. He looked for us and finally found us sleeping! Konrad did everything possible and saved no effort trying to make us feel happy and enjoy our visit: he showed us around, treated us to food, explained all the questions we had... Our only complaint (let's joke for a minute) is that he had not iron our sheets and the wrinkles consequently did not allow us to sleep comfortably... We were so fortunate to have this super helpful, friendly, and understanding man host us. He helped us immensely in a time of need. I wish I could choose "SUPER SUPER POSITIVE" for this reference, because I was amazed by his helpful and jovial personality. I am still surprised that there is such an amazing person out there in the world. Julen, you are absolutely awesome and you make the world a better place! Anybody who has the chance to host Julen should most definitely do it. You won't be let down by him.

Franco is a cool guy who really knows how to party. But, don't let this fool you, because he is also a great entrepeneur. Both him and his father, Rafael, are very friendly, and a real pleasure to speak with.

Both Franco and Rafael are very knowledgeable people and there is a lot to learn from them: Mexican history and geography, politics, sociology, etc. They have both traveled a lot and have big experience. Particularly unique about them is their generosity. They know how it feels to be in a foreign place in need of help. It is particularly remarkable and admirable they are just offering sincere help. They don't mind 'copy and paste' or 'last-minute' requests, because they understand, there are times where you just need help and can afford to spend five hours sitting at some computer looking for a couch. There sole motivation is to help.

We were able to stay while we recovered from being sick. We are very grateful for them. They made our stay in Mexico City like being at home.

Dani is the oldest son of a very beautiful family in Hermosillo. Him, his parents and both of his sisters are very beautiful people. (just kidding!).

I arrived to Hermosillo exhausted, after crossing the 'Desierto de Altar' in the middle of summer, under a 50 degrees celcius heat. At Daniel's I got all the rest I needed, some really awesome food cooked by his mother, a lot of fun partying with Dani's friends and a lot of help to solve quite some problems that I was having those days.

Deborah and Jon are a truly amazing couple. I had the most wonderful stay with them. The first day, Jon told me 'it was nice to have visitors'. I have to admit I thought to myself that was a weird remark to say to a stranger. It did not take me too long to understand: when you stay with Deborah and Jon you are not treated as a stranger, a traveler, not even a friend. With Deborah and Jon, you are family. Deborah and Jon treat you as if they had known you for years.

Debbie and Jon have three cats; the fattest, laziest and happiest cats on Earth. It's lovely to see how Deborah and Jon take care of their cats.

I stayed an unreasonable long time with Deborah and Jon and there wasn't a single time they were not beautiful to me. I thought I was abusing their hospitality, but they never allowed me to feel that way. Thanks to their generosity, I was able to work around the tricky Montana Spring weather and see the best of Glacier and the Flathead Valley.

We had a crazy couple of days with Javier. He arrived the night of our progressive New Years Eve party and he got to spend an hour in six houses owned by our friends. We all had a nice time with him, he is a very nice and unique individual with some amazing life experiences. He stayed with us another night and we had a nice meal and got to know him better. Unfortunately he came at a VERY busy time in our lives, and we weren't able to spend more time or be better hosts. Good luck with your travels Javier, please stay in touch and let us know you are OK!

The Roberts are a wonderful family in Whitefish, MT. Henry is a great, very friendly guy, so is his wife and the three beautiful children.

It was the end of the year in the Flathead Valley and, needless to say, it was snowing as it were the end of the world. Me, my touring bike and my panniers were sitting on the side of the road, not knowing where to go nor what to do. We were planning our trip back to the Pacific and did not have any better idea for the New Year's Eve than camping on some mountain in the middle of nowhere.

That was when the Roberts invited me to their progressive New Year's Eve party: the best plan ever! We had an awesome time, partying from one house to another, meeting all their friends; the coolest people in Whitefish! Say thanks to that crazy blond friend of yours too!

Chelsie rocks! I was in Missoula and asked wrote Chelsie, looking for some place in Helena. Chelsie happened to be that day in Missoula as well, and was not going to drive back to Helena until the next day. So I asked her if she had space for my bike and could give me a ride to Helena. Everything worked out perfect!

The best about Chelsie is that she does not make you feel like a guest, but like a friend. She was even worried that she could not give more time to show around and entertain.

CouchSurfing is truly the best thing since peanut butter and Jeff is what Couchsurfing is all about. In fact, it was Jeff who first told me about couchsurfing, so I owe him tons! It was winter in Glacier and one of my bike parts had failed. I put some ad on craigslist, looking for some place where I could stay until I had my bike fixed. Jeff wrote me, offered his place and told me about couchsurfing.

Jeff's is a wonderful place with great people. It is very 'hostel alike', with the same friendly and communal atmosphere you find in hostels. Only that is free. It is not just that you save money, but you know it is not because they want your business, but because you are truly welcome.

Thank you very much Jeff.

I visited Chic in June 2010. I had just been kicked out of the United States. Chic opened his house and big heart and gave me the warmest welcome, It was a difficult time for me and I needed support.

Chic was a good man. Nothing more needs to be said. He was the kind of person who enjoys to help and give; never expects anything back. I offered to cook for him, but he very kindly explained his best times were when he cooked, when he could feel useful.

The World Cup was on. As soon as he realized I was interested, he didn't hesitate to switch off his favorite political talk show, so I could watch the games.

He had strong political opinions, with which I mostly agree. We had very interesting, sincere and heated debates. He was always respectful and ready to accept different views.

Sometimew he would cough a lot. He remarked it could be his last summer. One year later I tried to post a reference to learn his prediction had been right. I am sorry we lost a good man. All the best Chick

When I first arrived at Alfredo's house, I met some very friendly young man who soon introduced me to his parents. I started talking to the older man and commented on the thoughtful messages we had been exchanging over the last days. The man was confused by my words, as he had never written anything to me. Alfredo is a young man who talks, thinks and reasons with the mind, sensibility and knowledge of a person 20-30 years over his age. He is quite a philosopher!

It is a shame it has taken me as much as a couple of years to write something for Paulo; after all what he did for me! Paulo gave me the warmest welcome to his beautiful and cute little cabaña (cabin) in Morelia. I arrived very late and tired, but Paulo offered some food and soon I was feeling great. We started talking and had such good time we only went to bed after 5am in the morning. That was really tough for him since he had to get up early for work and only got a couple of hours of sleep.

Paulo was the kindest, most generous and helpul person ever. He made sure I was going to have the best time in Morelia and beyond. He called friends and coworkers to take care of me, he provided all the directions, information and advice I could need during my time in Morelos and on my way to Cancun. In his business suit, neatly combed, tall, very elegant young man, you would guess Miguel is a money-minded, cold-hearted, aggressive business executive. You would be totally wrong though. Miguel is one of the warmest, biggest hearts we have met. He is a very sensitive, very generous, a truly good man; beautiful human being.

We arrived to Lisbon in the midst of big celebrations. We had sent dozens of couch requests, but could not find any host. All the hostels were full. It was not the right time for Miguel either: he was going through deep, personal problems. However, when he saw we were in big need of help, he did not hesitate to go far out of his way to give us a hand. Miguel sacrificed his own personal interests to help us out. Only very special, good people like Miguel would do that.

Unfortunately, the day woke up really grey and rainy, but Jairo saved our visit to Bratislava offering two umbrellas: it was a Godsent, it kept pouring the whole day! We had dinner with him and enjoyed the rest of the evening together. We had a great time!

Thank you very much for your help Jairo. We hope to see you one day in Montana.

Frank is a very nice, friendly and cool guy. He is a very easy person. No troubles with him! He is calm and sensible. Great guy to speak with and joke. He was very helpful and give us some very good tips to organize our trip to the Dolomites. It was still a bit of a shame, shall we say, he had to check in some book why the South Tirol had become Italian and what had been Italy's role in World War I. As if that would not be enough, it was even more shameful to find some Mexican Coronita beer in a German's fridge. However, since we promised we would not tell anybody, we will not make a big deal out of this :-P

Talking seriously, Frean is really a great guy and We had a very good time with him. Thank you very much Frank!

Barbara is a really beautiful person. We had such a good time with her and her kids! We arrived thinking we would stay 1-2 days: we stayed 5 nights and were still very sad when we left; they made us feel so well, so very welcomed, we did not want to see it end. Any time with Barbara is a good time, but always feels too short. When you leave, you wish you had stayed longer.

Barbara is a really good heart, very friendly, and funny. She is very generous. She baked an awesome 'Zopf' for us. She treated us to an amazing 'baked chestnuts' evening. It was only due to our poor planning that we missed the fondue lunch she was preparing the day we left.

Barbara helped us in anything she could. She pointed us things to do, hikes we could take. She looked up any information we needed. She did everything possible to ensure we had the best time in Bildersvil, and sure we had!

Barbara is a very cool person, very tolerant.

Barbara, we had a wonderful time in your house. Thank you so very much!

Gabriel and Mathilde are very nice people. However, she prepared an awesome dinner for us, that made us feel we were at the Waldorf Astoria!

Gabi is a very nice person. His background is really impressive: he has lived in many different countries and has obviously traveled to many different places. You soon realize you are before a very special person, with a very broad experience, from whom there is much you can learn.

If that would not be enough, at the human level, Gabi scores even higher grades. He is a very friendly person, very laid back. He is very generous, a very funny man. He gave us a lot of useful information and helped us in anything he could. Whether you want to have a deep conversation or have fun, you will always have a good time with him.
